Addiction NI Charity Of The Year
18th February 2020
Plumbmaster is thrilled to announce a new charity of the year partnership with Addiction NI . Addiction NI is an operating name of The Northern Ireland Community Addiction Service, a registered charity providing treatment and support for people who are dependent on alcohol or drugs.
Paul McDowell, a Sales Manager with Plumbmaster, has personal experience of these issues.
“I have started to learn more about the work of Addiction NI over the last few years because of some challenges in my personal life. My father passed away in November 2019 and a contributing factor was his dependence on alcohol.
“Addiction is a complicated issue and one I am learning more about. Alcohol is often used to mask the pain of underlying issues and this can lead to alcohol dependency that destroys individuals and families. I have other members of my family that are on the same path and it’s a real battle, on a daily basis, to try and help them stay sober.
“I have been blown away by the support that Addiction NI can offer on the ground at a local level. Anyone aged 18 and over can refer themselves into its counselling service. Addiction NI provides counselling, mutual aid partnership groups and peer mentors. It is also here to support family members who may need advice, too.”
Addiction NI Fundraising Manager Regina Cox said:
“Addiction is not a cause which easily attracts support due to the misconceptions, stigma and shame surrounding these issues and those affected. It is therefore particularly encouraging that we were nominated via an employee vote. The staff at Plumbmaster recognise the devastating impact that alcohol and other drug dependency has on thousands of individuals and families across Northern Ireland and are keen to challenge the stigma surrounding these issues.
“We are delighted to have the support of such a well-known and respected business and look forward to working together over the next year.
“Working with Plumbmaster will afford Addiction NI the opportunity to engage with new audiences across Northern Ireland. It will also allow us to provide information about the impact of alcohol and other drugs so that people can make informed choices about their use.”
We are keen to get customers and suppliers involved in all of its fundraising campaigns. You can call into your nearest branch to find out more or visit our Facebook page.
We also encouraging everyone to sign up to our Charity of the year, Addiction NI’s annual Race to Recovery on Sunday 8 March, as well as its Dodgeball Tournament (6 June), which is sure to be a brilliant day’s fun.
