Trade News

When you hear the words World Plumbing Day, are you asking yourself, ‘Do I need to send my plumber a card or a bunch of flowers’ or ‘Do I need to thank my doctor that my water works are working 100%’ Well Er, No.  It’s actually bigger than that, its wider than that, think international, think global.

World Plumbing Day has been designated by the World Plumbing Council as a day on which the entire plumbing industry is encouraged to promote the vital role plumbing plays in so many lives across the world.

Why is it important and why is it not just another day-of-the-year?

The World Plumbing Council’s Mission statement says it all – “To promote the role of plumbing in improving public health and safeguarding the environment, by uniting the World Plumbing Industry for the benefit of All.

It is widely recognised that plumbing has made a significant contribution to the well-being of mankind.  For many generations, it has provided fresh water, effective hygiene & sanitation and helped safeguard the environment.

As a result the average lifespan across many regions of the world virtually doubled with deadly diseases such as typhoid and cholera rapidly declining. However, there is more to be done as there are still parts of the world that do not have access to fresh water and sanitation and millions continue to die each year, particularly children, from preventable diseases.

New Technologies

With the latest advancements in technology, there are a range of plumbing products which help to make our water and energy supplies more sustainable. These range from recycling water, rainwater harvesting, solar energy, conservation of water and low energy household appliances.

Many new developments help us to limit the use of water too with modern, double-flush toilets, low flow shower heads and many other products. Add this to natural energy sources and you can see the plumbing industry is becoming greener.
