Product Spotlight: ADEY MagnaCleanse Technology

Product Spotlight

The introduction of ADEY’s magnetic filtration more than ten years ago revolutionised central heating system maintenance and ADEY’s MagnaCleanse® technology is now being applied to system cleaning throughout the UK and Europe with phenomenal success.

Conducting a magnetic filtration system cleanse not only saves the installer time but also uses up to 90% less water. Carrying out ADEY’s MagnaCleanse process could be achieved in as little as two hours and removes virtually 100% of the suspended debris.

The Problem

With the advent of high-efficiency equipment, installers are finding that even in very small amounts, iron oxide sludge can potentially cause expensive damage – and significant drops in efficiency and performance – to boilers and ECM pumps.

Both are particularly vulnerable to the damaging effects of sludge due to their narrower waterways, which can easily clog with debris. Dr. Neil Watson, ADEY Chief Technical Officer, sums it up this way: “Even the highest-quality boiler will deteriorate rapidly if it is fitted to a dirty system that hasn’t been flushed and cleaned effectively”.

The Solution

Therefore ADEY have developed the ADEY System Treatment Formulas. An integral part of the ADEY 6-Step Best Practice™ approach for cleaning and maintaining hydronic systems, MC3+ and MC1+ System Treatment Formulas work to produce results that ultimately boost system efficiency and performance.

MC5 Cleaner is a specifically designed concentrated liquid which loosens debris and scale so it can be harmlessly flushed from the system. The product can be left in the system for up to 7 days. When using MC5 in conjunction with MagnaCleanse, the chemical enhances performance making the system cleansing process faster and more efficient. After cleaning, the system should be drained and flushed thoroughly. After the system is drained to flush loosened debris, system flow is restored. As a result, the system’s heating efficiency is also restored.

MC1+ Protector is also a concentrated liquid and is designed to be used after MC5. It prevents the build-up of scale and significantly reduces the oxidation process that causes the formation of iron oxide sludge, maintaining system efficiency by keeping narrow waterways flowing freely. As a protective agent, MC1+ is designed to remain in the system without being flushed.

Both products are available in single-use bottles or Rapid-Dose containers fitted with an adaptor that delivers the formula in 20 seconds. Either delivery method treats 100 Litres, or up to 10 radiators, in a single treatment. Designed to work best in conjunction with ADEY MagnaClean magnetic filters, they can be delivered directly into a MagnaClean container, or via the radiator or purge and fill point.

Benefits of MagnaCleanse technology

  • Removes virtually ALL suspended black iron oxide in ONE pass
  • System flushing could now be achieved in as little as TWO hours
  • Effective system flushing results with ongoing protection
  • Cleanser remains concentrated within the system throughout the process
  • Cleanser remains heated within the system throughout the process – More effective
  • Saves water – Disposal ONLY at the end of the process
  • Effective, ongoing protection for the boiler for improved performance and efficiency

Six steps to efficiency

The adoption of ADEY’s Best Practice™ approach to heating system maintenance has been instrumental in bringing system cleaning to the fore. For the most effective central heating system maintenance protection and to maintain the boiler and pipework, a six-step approach of Clean, MagnaCleanse®, MagnaClean®, Protect, Test and Maintain is recommended.

Without removing the sludge that causes the heating system to function less efficiently, the subsequent steps will be considerably less effective and it is also an important element in ensuring boiler warranties remain valid.

With many manufacturers increasing the length of their product’s warranties, which is a great positive for homeowners, it may result in these warranties not being honoured if the installer hasn’t fitted the boiler to a clean system. Carrying out a total system cleanse is the most effective way to do this, providing both the installer and homeowner with peace of mind.
